The department is actively engaged in research in the following areas: Environmental Microbiology, Avian Diversity and Bioacoustics, Insect Biodiversity and Air pollution, Aquatic biodiversity, Ecological Modeling and Limnological Research, Aquatic Ecobiology, Wildlife and Himalayan Ecology, Bioenergetics, Bioecology & Forest Ecology, Aquatic Biodiversity. Currently 31 students are registered for Ph.D. programme. Twenty Research students have been awarded fellowships by different funding agencies such as: UGC, DST, UCOST. A number of research projects have been granted by DST (Govt. of India), UCOST (Govt. of Uttarakhand) and UGC to the faculty of the department. On account of excellent contribution in academics/ research the department has been awarded DST-FIST & UGC-SAP grants/ status.
