About the Department

The department of Mathematics & Statistics offers B.Sc., M.Sc. and PhD programmes in Mathematics. Since its inception, the department is offering various courses in Mathematics at different levels and thus making the continuous efforts of making the students aware about recent as well as ancient knowledge of Mathematics. In 1958, the first course in Mathematics was started in the department at the undergraduate level in main campus, while the postgraduate programme was started in 1964. Later on, in 1986, the department started offering Ph.D. programme. The department of Mathematics & Statistics at Kanya Gurukul Campus, Hardwar was established in 1995 with M.Sc. programme in Mathematics.
Since 2015-16, semester system under choice based credit system, has been adopted in B.Sc. and M.Sc. programmes. The increasing demand for specialized persons in different research and industrial establishments has led us to keep syllabi of different courses up to their standard. Keeping in mind the latest developments, the contents of the courses are updated and revised from time to time. However, this is felt that this progress should not be at the cost of our ancient knowledge of mathematics. Therefore, a lot of research work has been carried out in the department on Ancient Mathematics as well.
